Zoe tried to kill herself

Netflix White Lines season 2: 10 questions we have after explosive first season

Warning: Includes season one spoilers.

White Lines has been everyone’s latest binge-watch obsession since it dropped on Netflix on 15 May, and understandably fans are already clamouring for season two.

Tom Rhys Harries, who plays murdered DJ Axel Collins in the show, recently revealed that location recces had been happening for a second season prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

So it looks like there are plans for a second season – at least once it is safe to begin filming again – but the first season of White Lines left a lot of questions unanswered.

Here’s what we’d like to find out the answers to in White Lines season two:

What is going to happen to Anna after she was revealed as Axel Collins’s killer?

In the biggest twist ever, Anna was revealed to be the one who killed Axel Collins, after he threatened to tell her husband Marcus Ward about their affair.

A young Anna was seen holding Axel under water when he fell into difficulties after taking cocaine in the pool at the end of his party, before getting Marcus to help her load him into the boot of Oriol Calafat’s car after telling Marcus Axel had burned all their money in a bonfire after selling their nightclubs and the rights to all their music.

When Axel came to in the boot, Marcus reversed the car into him before Anna dealt the final blow by stabbing him in the back with a screwdriver, before the pair buried him on the Calafats’ land.

The secret lay buried until his body was discovered 20 years later, and his sister, Zoe Walker, finally put the pieces together and got Anna to confess in the final episode.

With the revelation taking place on Anna’s wedding day to George, the last we see of her is in her wedding dress – but will she get held to account for her crimes now Zoe knows the truth?

We didn’t see Anna get arrested or whether Zoe will go to the police about her discovery, but viewers will be keen to see what consequences lie in store for Anna.

What will happen between Zoe and Boxer?

Zoe and Boxer’s love tryst hasn’t seemed to have ended on the best of terms, what with her running him over in Anna’s car before stringing him up and blasting him with a jet washer to get him to confess to murdering Axel.

However, now she knows he’s not the killer, could there be hope for their romance developing in season two?

Boxer does have many secrets he is hiding from Zoe, including the fact he helped cover for Oriol Calafat after he caused the crash which killed her father, Clint, and cleaned the inside of the camper van to get rid of all trace of Oriol.

He also ran her dad off the island back when Axel first went missing, so it appears he probably knows more about the killing than we’ve seen so far.

Also, he royally screwed her over in court when he claimed she was unstable based on her past mental health history, so he’s probably not in Zoe’s good books right now, despite their magnetic attraction to one another.

Will Zoe go back to her husband and child?

Things haven’t been good between Zoe and her husband Mike since he found out about her affair with Boxer, and it’s safe to say the news didn’t go down too well with her daughter Jenny either.

After flying out to Ibiza to visit Zoe, Mike and Jenny flew back to Manchester when the affair came to light and after Zoe FaceTimed Jenny at 4am while high on ecstasy, Mike threatened to fight for sole custody of their daughter.

Although we have yet to see their reaction to Clint’s death, perhaps the family tragedy will be enough to bring Zoe back to her husband and child in Manchester now that she is free to fly back from Ibiza after the court case.

Zoe remained in Ibiza at the end of season one, and whether or not her relationship with her husband can survive, we’d imagine she will do whatever she can to fight for her daughter.

Does Marcus take over as Boxer’s replacement for the Calafat family?

At the end of season one, we see Marcus Ward offer Andreu Calafat a proposition to take over the drug trade on the island and take back control from the rival Martinez family who have left Andreu in a wheelchair after an attempt on his life.

It comes after Boxer handed in his resignation to the family after decades of service, leaving them without their go-to henchman who they can call on for everything from chauffeuring them around to killing off their enemies.

Given that Marcus is still recovering from a broken leg after getting on the wrong side of a pair of Romanian drug runners, we’re not sure how successful the hapless small-time dealer will be at running an international operation.

Will the Romanian drug dealers’ wives be back to cause more problems and will their bodies be found?

At the end of season one, Marcus ended up in a sticky situation when the wives of Grigor and Yuri came looking for their husbands.

The women lured Marcus into the back of their lorry along with their henchmen and another of the island’s drug dealers who they thought might be involved in their deaths.

After diving by Marcus’s buoys to see if they could find the bodies (which Marcus and Zoe had recently removed) they eventually let Marcus go on his merry way with a hefty bill for their missing cocaine, to the tune of almost €300, 000 (£269, 000).

The bodies of Grigor and Yuri, who were killed by Boxer after Zoe stole their cocaine from Marcus and lost it during a police chase, were buried by the pair in a field.

Given that the bodies already managed to make their way back from the bottom of the sea, we wouldn’t be surprised if they popped up again in season two – and we doubt their wives are going to stop when it comes to finding out who killed their husbands.

What is Boxer going to do now he’s quit working for the Calafats?

At the end of season one we saw Boxer hand in his resignation to Andreu, saying he was now too old to be living above a night club and doing the odd jobs he does for the family.

The last we saw of Boxer was him driving off in his white convertible with the driver’s side door missing where Zoe had run him over and ripped it off in the process.

Viewers will be keen to see what happens to Boxer now – will he get on the straight and narrow and is there a chance for him and Zoe if he does?

Will Marcus and Kika stay together?

It was the relationship we didn’t see coming, but Marcus and Kika Calafat’s romance began to blossom as season one wore on.

With Marcus finally getting over Anna – despite her realising she would rather be with him, who adored her unconditionally than the stand-offish George she’s ended up marrying – and him now working for the Calafat family, viewers will want to see where their relationhip ends up going from here.

What retribution will there be for the Martinez family after Oriol’s lies?

After Oriol killed Zoe’s dad, he lied to his father about his injuries, saying it was down to the Martinez family.

Given that Andreu is still pretty mad at the fact they tried to kill him by ramming a truck into his car and have left him paralysed, we can imagine there are plenty more sparks to come in season two between the Calafat and Martinez families.

Will Oriol be held to account for Zoe’s dad’s death?

Boxer covered for Oriol after he escaped from the toilet of the camper van Clint was driving and caused him to crash into a pile of logs, killing him.

The police know that the camper van was professionally cleaned after the crash, and we know Zoe has her suspicions of foul play, so will Oriol get his comeuppance?

Will Axel Collins be in season two?

While season one focused on the murder of Axel Collins and finding out who the culprit was – because at one stage he appeared to have p**sed off the whole of the island – it was all revealed in the final episode.

Given that the question of his killer has been solved, Axel may not be such a central character in season two, however his story seemed to be entwined with every other character, so it’s likely we will see him pop up every now and again wherever the story ends up going.

White Lines is available to stream on Netflix now.
